    Philosophy of Couples Counseling


You build walls instead of bridges. Even seemingly safe topics feel loaded with
tension. Everything you say causes a negative, often attacking response from your
partner. This hurts and makes you angry. You fight and never seem to resolve
anything. Then you both shutdown

You feel neglected by and unimportant to your partner. You do not feel respected,
understood or truly heard. They are emotionally unavailable or quickly become so.
You try to connect, but they pull away or shutdown

You want to spend more time together, they want more time alone or with their
friends or vice versa. You feel the distance growing between you and are seemingly
powerless to stop it. You feel stuck, unable to change



The deeper problems in your relationship are the result of what have become
inflexible and defensive ways of interacting. Anger and fear have replaced openess
and trust which has led to rigid, contentious ways of responding to one another

I help you identify and change these hurtful ways of interacting. You create a
relationship that fosters acceptance, friendship, trust and affection - a deep and
loving connection that respects and values togetherness and individual differences

You come to understand and effectively manage your own fears as well as
understand your partners. Curosity and compassion replace anger and
aggression. You begin to tear the walls down

You develop more flexible, caring and satisfying ways of dealing with conflict,
problems and decisions
