My Approach
Welcome to my individual counseling page! I work with both adults and teens to improve a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues.
My special interests are treating anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. Any of these can severely limit life's opportunities and even rob us of life itself. Often these conditions occur together.
In individual counseling I work with you to recover your energy, positive sense of self, enjoyment of activities and hobbies, and freedom from fear and harmful stress. In the case of complex trauma I work with you to heal from its often painful and crippling legacy.
As a result you increase your capacity to live life more fully, with confidence and resilience.
Respect, trust, understanding and support combine with research informed practices to hold and guide our work together. My counseling practice is in the University District in Seattle, WA. You can reach me at 206-661-2854.
Relief first - provide relief from depression, anxiety and trauma related distress; improve functioning as soon as possible.
Non-judgment - Acceptance of you and your life experience. First and foremost I want you to feel understood
Respect - For you, the choices you make and the pace at which you want to work
Collaboration - We work together to understand the issues, develop the goals of counseling and choose the strategy for attaining those goals
Flexibility - The plan and approach to counseling is tailored to your unique style, needs and comfort level
Strength-based - Focus more on strengths vs deficits, solutions vs problems
Developmental thinking - Most People seeking help are not mentally ill. A mismatch has developed between once tried and true ways of living and current life circumstances
Knowledge - Empirically supported and/or evidence informed options are always offered where available. Ultimately, however, you decide what you are most comfortable with and willing to do

Choosing a counselor is a very personal decision. The best information for making it comes from meeting in person.
Why? Because research consistently shows that the best results are achieved when the quality of the client/counselor relationship is high.
