Steve Hammil Counseling

My Masters in Psychology was earned at Antioch University in Seattle, Washington. That was preceded by a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Economics from the University of Washington and two years of graduate level training in organizational development and leadership at the Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS). I have completed the Washington state required training to be a domestic violence advocate. I am married and just celebrated 32 years together  September 2010. We reside in the Seattle area.

I have been a registered counselor in Washington state since April of 2008. I work with a supervisor who has  more than 30 years experience providing, and teaching, counseling.

Personal Experience With Change

This personal experience informs my work as a counselor and therapist. 

A few years ago I realized something was not right in my life. I had forgotten what fun was. I was bored and yet stressed. I was stalled in my carreer, but was still working long hours. Eventhough I acted confident and together on the outside, on the inside I felt like a fake just waiting to be exposed.

I resisted, but I eventually opened to the possiblity that counseling could help me. I found people that believed in me, gave me feedback in a caring, compassionate way, and stood by me through the process. The sense of falseness began changing to a sense of wholeness.

The most important benefits extended beyond my career. My marriage grew stronger as I became a more emotionally aware partner. Family relationships and friendships became deeper and more meaningful as I embraced personal strengths that in the past I shied away from. In the end I decided to make a significant career change that reflected the changes in my values and committments.
